Job Summary:
The IP Engineering III position will perform all activities associated with the addition, maintenance, and support of all Logix Network Elements pertaining to its carrier network. Duties include detail level routing, switching, QOS and MPLS network engineering, configuration, and support. Also, of critical importance is developing and implementing appropriate security policies regarding the protection of network equipment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Good working knowledge of Adtran, Brocade, ALU/Nokia, and Cisco routers.
• Good working knowledge of Ciena SAOS 6, 8, and 10 along with Navigator NCS.
• Expert working knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS and BGP).
• Expert working knowledge of STP, RSTP, 8032ERP, MPLS, SFTP, DNS, SSH.
• Expert Knowledge Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks.
• Expert Knowledge of IPV4 and IPV6 along with TCP, UDP, ICMP, QUIC.
• Understanding of Packet captures and analysis.
• A firm working knowledge of Ethernet based fiber optic networks as well as SONET and DWDM.
• Provide support to Tier 2 and Tier 3 Support/NOC staff as well as Tier 3 support of IP Engineering staff.
• Ability to design and perform Lab testing projects and document accordingly.
• Ability to develop and implement change management procedures as needed.
• Engineer projects related to Layer 2 and Layer 3 network re-designs and expansions.
• Good working knowledge of Windows Operating systems and Linux OS.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Write standard operating procedures related to processes and equipment.
• May be required to travel to other markets for special projects or training.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Adheres to policies and procedures.
o Attends work on time as scheduled.
o Required to call in to report an absence no less than one hour prior to the start of
the shift by contacting the supervisor directly and stating reason for absence.
o Minimizes safety hazards by following all safety rules and procedures.
• Perform other duties from time to time as business needs dictate.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Must be able to learn all aspects of the job by attending seminars/vocational schools or classes, reading instruction manuals, on-the-job-training, etc.
• Ability to break down complex tasks into smaller more manageable “micro-tasks”
• Ability to filter facts and information to troubleshoot complex issues breaking them down into simpler “micro-tasks” to provide quick problem resolution.
• Provide support to Tier 2 and Tier 3 Support/NOC/Circuit Provisioning staff.
• Support/Coach/Mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 IP Engineering Staff
• Assist with the development of “Network Evolution” plans.
• Must be able to learn all aspects of the job by attending seminars/vocational schools or classes, reading instruction manuals, on-the-job-training, etc.
• Demonstrate creative and organizational skills in order to work through projects producing accurate and effective end results.

Education and Experience:
• College degree or 5+ years’ experience in major area recommended.
• Display an expert knowledge in Network Design and or Architecture.
• At least one of the following and equivalent work experience of 5+ years in carrier network engineering, management and development:
1. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – CCIE service provider preferred
2. Juniper JNCIP – JNCIE service provider preferred
3. Nokia Network Routing Specialist II (NRSI) Certification or Nokia Service Routing
Architect (NSRA)
4. Ciena Certified Routing and Switching Associate or Professional (CRS-A/CRS-P)
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate by typing, reading, talking, and listening effectively. The employee will be required to work for extended periods of time at a desk on a computer and must be able to maneuver through office spaces as needed.
