About the position
The Microbiologist-E position within the Bureau of Laboratories HIV Unit is a full-time role based in Lansing, MI, primarily responsible for performing a comprehensive range of molecular microbiological assignments in the Virology Section. This role involves conducting high complexity diagnostic testing on human and animal specimens to detect various viruses, including but not limited to Influenza, COVID-19, Measles, Mumps, Norovirus, and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). The position requires proficiency in testing assays such as RT-PCR and Next Generation Sequencing, as well as other genotyping assays. Rabies testing is also a critical component of this role, which includes participation in weekend on-call duties on a rotational basis. As an E-level Microbiologist, the individual will utilize considerable independent judgment to ensure the reliability of the assays performed.
