The East Asia National Resource Center (NRC) at George Washington University is supported by the Title VI provision of the 1965 Higher Education Act and is jointly managed by the Sigur Center for Asian Studies and the GW Institute for Korean Studies. The NRC aims to enhance GW's ability to engage the broader public community, including students, K-12 educators, Minority Serving Institutions, policymakers, and the general public on issues of importance in East Asia. Its mission is to provide learning resources on East Asia that empower educators and future leaders to better engage contemporary global issues. In support of these missions, the ESIA seeks an outstanding individual to be the Program Coordinator for the East Asia National Resource Center (NRC). The Program Coordinator will provide enhanced administrative support for the NRC Director Program Associate, and other associated faculty and staff, including program management support for the NRC and the Taiwan Education and Research Program (TERP). This position will play an integral role in the seamless execution of NRC and TERP activities, such as public and private events, and the stewardship of student and faculty academic and research awards. The position will coordinate daily NRC and TERP operations that include but are not limited to, in-person/virtual event coordination and execution; website and social media management; generation, storage, and maintenance of relevant program data; and expenditure tracking and processing. The position will support faculty and senior staff to report on NRC and TERP activities to donors and relevant stakeholders. Primary Responsibilities include: • Event coordination and execution: Organizes NRC and TERP events, conferences, and workshops under the direction of the NRC Program Manager and appropriate faculty. This includes event promotion and coordinating with external stakeholders as needed. • Communication: Manages the NRC and TERP websites and communication platforms including maintaining email accounts, responding to questions about the NRC and/or TERP, posting event descriptions on appropriate websites and blogs, sending advertisements about key events, and maintaining the NRC and TERP social media accounts. • Budget support: Processes NRC and TERP financial expenditures; collects, stores, and maintains receipts of NRC and TERP-related expenses. • Data and reporting management: Collects, stores, and maintains data generated by NRC and TERP activities, including but not limited to: interim and final report-related data points; event satisfaction surveys; and other performance measures as indicated by the Program Associate and associated faculty. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: • Strong communication and organizational skills. • Thrives on responsibility, able to initiate new ideas, and able to be flexible. • Experience with in-person and online event planning, including developing publicity and managing logistics (travel, catering, etc.) • Familiarity with online event platforms such as Zoom, Webex, Google Meet, etc. • Interest in designing layouts and writing copy for social media, newsletters, websites, posters, fliers, brochures, etc. • Familiarity with or willingness to learn online and digital design, publishing, and editing platforms such as WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva. • Willingness to work a limited number of evening and weekend hours to provide on-site management of events (maximum of three weekends and six evenings per academic year). • Background in International Affairs, Area/Asian Studies, Communications/Marketing, Political Science, Asian Languages and literature, English, Psychology, History, and Business Administration preferred. • Coursework in East Asian Studies or professional/personal experience in the region is a plus. • Working knowledge of an East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, or Korean) is a plus. Typical Hiring Range $20.67 - $26.85 II. JOB DETAILS Campus Location: Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C. College/School/Department: Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) Family Academic Affairs Sub-Family Program Administration Stream Service and Support Level Level 3 Full-Time/Part-Time: Full time - FTE 1.00 Hours Per Week: 40 hours Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
