This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.
We're looking for an innovative Global South Communications Strategist with a unique combination of skills who wants to play a major role in tackling climate change.
You will be working across GSCC regional teams and country desks to shape and advance a narrative that promotes climate action and energy transition whilst recognising Global South considerations.
This role is expected to work in collaboration with relevant teams across the network and offer better insights and opinion on Global South strategy and choices. This is a global role where you will be expected to use your expertise, insights, and network to plan and deliver high quality narrative work, and you will need to be adept at... working with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines.
Being able to think strategically about making change, and trying innovative ways proactively will be a big asset in being successful in this role.

How you'll contribute
• Coordinating the development and implementation of strategies that seek to harness GSCC's multiple core abilities and capacities of strategic communications, media , messaging insights to offer a clearer understanding of complex climate messages esp as they pertain to geopolitics, to accelerate a just energy transition in the Global South.
• Stay abreast of latest developments on the core elements of the strategy, which are focused on climate finance, south-south cooperation and a fossil fuel phase out.
• Collaborating with colleagues focusing on strategic communications from Latin America, Africa and Asia, as well as in the fields of oil and gas, clean energy, finance, insights, climate impacts, digital and diplomacy to develop and execute collaborative projects, identifying key opportunities, narratives, moments, targets and audiences and facilitating the collaboration between multiple teams.
• Tracking public, media and political debates around the opportunities of the energy transition for countries in the Global South, supporting climate mitigation, adaptation and social and economic development.
• Crafting compelling narratives and communication materials to influence public opinion and stakeholder perceptions, considering its use across various communication channels (social media, traditional media, publications) to disseminate key messages.
• Identifying and engaging external partners and stakeholders to develop, refine and execute strategies and projects.
• Assisting the teams in developing and maintaining a diverse network of partners and contacts across sectors, including government, business, NGOs, think tanks, academics, investors and economists.
• Identifying and coordinating rapid response activities as needed.
• Contributing to monitoring, evaluation and reporting, including some financial and administrative tasks.
Our ideal candidate has
• Extensive professional experience in strategy and communications;
• An expert understanding in climate change, energy, climate finance, diplomacy and development, with a focus on Global South countries.
• Proven experience with and understanding of the media landscape and the value of strategic story placement.
• Experience with coordinating multiple stakeholders spread across countries and with diverse expertise in the development and implementation of collaborative strategies.
• Demonstrable experience dealing with a variety of stakeholders, including experts, journalists and civil society; existing networks in the climate change or development community in the Global South are valued attributes.
• Ability to synthesise complex information and derive actionable insights.
• Strong familiarity of communications strategies and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven experience in stakeholder mapping and engagement, with strong networking and relationship-building skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English, our working language; additional languages are an asset.
• A genuine interest in and passion for addressing climate change and advancing the development of countries in the Global South.
• Sensitivity to cultural differences and local contexts in the Global South.
• The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make informed decisions, managing multiple simultaneous priorities.
• The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across time zones using tools such as Zoom, Slack and email (Google Workspace).
