We are at the forefront of managing the rapid and exciting transformation of the City so that Ōtautahi Christchurch is a vibrant and resilient city in the future, prepared for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We lead policy projects and provide policy support across our land-use planning, urban regeneration and strategic transport planning teams.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
The role includes leading, shaping and influencing Council and Central Government policies and strategies aligned with the work of our team. This includes:
• Leading and coordinating the development of Council and staff submissions
• Policy support into wider team's statutory and non-statutory planning and strategic projects
• Leading and contributing to policy projects in support of priority development and regeneration areas, such as, our local area planning programme
• Advising senior leadership and elected members.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
We are looking for someone that has:
• A qualification in a policy related discipline
• Experience in the framing and preparation of policy advice, briefing papers and policy project leadership and delivery within central or local government
• Comprehensive knowledge of one or more areas of policy and analysis related to this role
• Experience with and understanding of public consultation processes
• Ability to produce and recognise high quality policy work and provide peer support and coaching to colleagues.
You will enjoy working collaboratively. Communication (both written and presentation skills), crafting effective strategic advice and the ability to shape, frame and analyse issues will be a strength.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $115,466 - $128,295 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
