About the Opportunity The Director/VP of Engineering will serve as the organization’s technical backbone and product owner, responsible for all technology-related initiatives and guiding the engineering team in optimizing member experience. This leadership role will involve overseeing the full tech stack, establishing an internal source of truth, and managing AWS-hosted infrastructure. Initially working with contractors, this individual will eventually build and lead a high-performing internal team, ensuring technical capabilities scale with its business goals in the health, wellness, and lifestyle space. Responsibilities: • Technology Leadership: Serve as the ultimate owner of all technology-driven initiatives, establishing and maintaining an internal source of truth for the engineering and product teams. • Product Ownership: Collaborate closely with product management to define, prioritize, and execute technical projects that enhance the member experience and align with strategic goals. • Tech Stack Oversight: Maintain, optimize, and evolve the company’s tech stack with a focus on scalability, security, and user experience. • AWS Infrastructure Management: Oversee AWS-hosted environment, ensuring robust and efficient cloud architecture. • Full-Stack Support: Act as a hands-on resource, when necessary, able to work across the full stack and resolve technical issues proactively. • Contractor Management & Team Building: Initially manage external contractors to fulfill technical requirements, with a long-term vision of building and scaling an internal engineering team. • Strategic Growth: Partner with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, and operations, to support direct-to-consumer model, particularly in e-commerce and lifestyle. Requirements: • Experience: 10+ years in software engineering or technology leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior management role within direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, health and wellness, or lifestyle brands. • Technical Expertise: Proficient in full-stack development, with demonstrated success in managing AWS-hosted environments and executing high-impact tech initiatives. • Product-Oriented Mindset: Proven ability to translate product vision into technical roadmaps and deliverables that meet business and customer needs. • Leadership & Team Development: Skilled in managing contractors, with a passion for building and nurturing high-performing internal teams. • Innovation & Execution: Ability to scope projects effectively, set strategic direction, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Preferred Skills • E-commerce & D2C Insight: Strong understanding of technical solutions tailored to the direct-to-consumer space, particularly in health and wellness. • Scalability & Security: Experience with building secure, scalable systems to support growing business needs. • Customer-Centric Approach: Familiarity with enhancing member experience through technical improvements, data insights, and usability enhancements.
