Why is this role cool As an Engineering Manager for the Client Product team, you will be at the forefront of integrating systems and creating event-driven architectures to enable our client-facing products. You will have the opportunity to lead a talented team of engineers, driving experimentation and innovation to improve our client journey and member operations experience. This role offers a unique blend of hands-on coding and strategic leadership, making a tangible impact on our mission to reverse type 2 diabetes. With GenAI quickly taking over our lives, this role would be leading in building and integrating agentic-based subsystems into the products the team builds. Responsibilities • Team Management & Dynamics: Mentor, guide, and support team members towards a positive and collaborative environment. • Career Development & Growth: Create individualized development plans, identify training opportunities, and provide performance feedback. • Cross-functional Collaboration: Bridge the gap between engineering and other departments, working closely with product, design, AI, and analytics functions. • Process Management & Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes through feedback, retrospectives, and best practices. • Technical Strategy & Decision-making: Align key technical decisions with business objectives and the broader technical strategy, while remaining hands-on with designing architecture and coding. Must-Haves • 2+ years of management experience in a software engineering environment • 8+ years of engineering experience with building and architecting software systems, with experience working in a data focused role. • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or experience in a relevant field • Experience in programming languages such as Golang and Python • Experience in integrations with external third-party systems • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and succinctly • Prior experience building collaborative and high performing teams in a remote environment • Solid programming skills, a track record, and passion for improving the code structure and architecture to enhance testability and maintainability • Great project management skills to lead, care about product ownership, an outstanding customer-centric mindset, and solving problems for our customers. • A self-starter driven with a spirit to experiment and learn and fail fast. Bonus Points For… • Working at a startup during the growth phase. • Experience working with GenAI and building AI applications. • Experience working with Google Cloud. • Familiarity working in a regulated industry, particularly healthcare. 90 Day Plan Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following: • Familiarize yourself with the team and its stakeholders. Get a pulse on team dynamics, understand expectations, and collaborations, with an eye towards what to safeguard and where enhanced coordination is needed. • Establish and enhance team processes. Review the current process, intended outcomes, and methodology of your team and the teams in the group. Bring your expertise to identify inefficiency, risk, and ways to enhance delivery or team health. • Align the learnings from above with the product roadmap and technical roadmap to start building a strategy for your team that melds the short-term and long-term goals of the team with that of the larger organization or the business. Have a plan to iterate on this strategy over time. Security and privacy training will be provided. Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.
