The Role We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who is deeply passionate about modern software development, thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and takes full ownership of their work. The ideal candidate will possess both technical excellence and the proactive mindset required to contribute meaningfully to our mission. In this role, you will collaborate directly with our product and engineering leadership across the UK and Sri Lanka, working on complex technical challenges while influencing key product decisions. You will have the freedom to take ownership of entire projects, from conceptualisation to deployment, while ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable software. This is a remote-first, full-time position with competitive compensation paid in USD, equity options, and the opportunity to help shape the future of mental health technology on a global scale. Key Responsibilities • Design and Build: Architect and develop high-performance, scalable, and secure features for our NextJS/NestJS platform. • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to align development efforts with strategic goals. • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Apply modern development techniques and integrate AI-powered tools to enhance user experience and operational efficiency. • Continuous Improvement: Identify potential optimisations, contribute to code reviews, and mentor junior developers to maintain high-quality standards. • Product Roadmap Influence: Participate in discussions with product leadership to contribute insights and technical guidance that shape the platform's future. Key Requirements Technical Experience: Minimum of 2 years in full-stack development, with practical expertise in NextJS, NestJS, GraphQL, MongoDB, AWS, and Azure. Backend Development: • Proficiency in Node.js and NestJS - solid experience in backend performance optimisation, including security, caching, and efficient data handling. Frontend Development: • Proficiency in React.js, Next.js, Redux, and Context API. Experience in frontend performance optimisation with a focus on security and responsiveness. • Familiarity with modern styling frameworks, such as TailwindCSS. API and Real-Time Communication Experience: • Demonstrated experience with designing and integrating RESTful and GraphQL APIs. • Practical experience implementing WebSocket communication for real-time functionality. Cloud Services Integration: • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and services, particularly AWS and Azure. • Familiarity with serverless architecture, cloud-native databases, and microservices. Testing and Quality Assurance: • Experience with unit testing and integration testing. • Proficiency with testing frameworks like Jest and Mocha for both frontend and backend codebases. AI Enthusiast: • Familiarity with AI-driven tools and a keen interest in exploring how AI can streamline development and improve product features, with the ability to prompt efficiently using modern development tools like Cursor to enhance productivity and problem-solving. Autonomous and Proactive: • A self-starter who takes ownership of tasks, manages time effectively, and proactively identifies and solves challenges. Exceptional English Communication: • Fluency in English is an absolute requirement. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken form to engage with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Nice to Have While not mandatory, experience in the following areas would be advantageous: • Development of healthcare or practice management software. • Understanding of healthcare data protection standards such as HIPAA and GDPR. • Experience with AI and machine learning technologies. • Prior experience working in high-growth, fast-paced startup environments.
