Requirements Assistant Director of Programs and Research, Institute for the Study of Diplomacy - Walsh School of Foreign Service - Georgetown University Job Overview The Assistant Director of Programs and Research - in a CCNY grant-funded role - directly supports an initiative titled “Diplomatic Engagement: From Scholar’s Theory to Practitioner’s Work, and Back.” Specifically, their performance is central to the initiative’s goal to expand and improve ISD’s foundational mission as a nexus between the academic world and the practitioner’s, and thus supports ISD’s public engagement. In collaboration with the Director of Programs and Research, the Assistant Director primarily manages four programs funded by the CCNY grant - including but not limited to the production of a podcast and an online magazine on timely diplomatic issues, editorial oversight of the well-established online Case Studies Library, and support to the organization, development of background materials and online and print publication and dissemination of the findings of ISD New Global Commons working groups on emerging diplomatic challenges. As well, they indirectly support other public-engagement ISD programs within ISD. Employing a substantive knowledge of diplomacy and international relations, and writing and editing accurately, the Assistant Director ensures that all of these ISD legacy and new media publications are edited, produced, and marketed at a standard and in a style that ensures they are professionally relevant, academically rigorous, and accessible and useful to their varied audiences. Work Interactions Reporting to the ISD Director and to the Director of Programs and Research, the Assistant Director of Programs and Research works closely with senior staff. And co-supervises and shares the support services of one or more student research assistants and one staff member. Requirements and Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree - preference for a Master’s degree - in international relations or international history • 2 to 3 years of experience relevant to the initiative and the mission of ISD • Familiarity with case studies and/or classroom teaching, diplomatic practice, academic literature, podcasting and online magazine publications • Proven experience producing podcasts for a wider academic and policy audience • Ability to write and edit accurately on a wide range of international relations topics and for a variety of audiences through different media • Exceptional attention to detail • Strong interpersonal skills • Familiarity with Adobe Suite, WordPress, Hootsuite, and social media strategies Work Mode: Hybrid.
