Under general supervision, the Hospital Coder is responsible for the collection of relevant, pertinent, accurate and timely diagnosis and procedural codes abstracted from hospital case types that most commonly include but are not limited to: hospital outpatient clinics, emergency department, surgical cases, observation, infusion, imaging, and... professional billing to the extent of the hospital's responsibility. This includes effective use of hospital encoding systems and resources as well as recognizing what data can be abstracted, presented and interpreted for effective use throughout the hospital data cycle. Responsible for resolving coding validation and claim edits based on regulatory and compliant processes. May be responsible for working account problems in EPIC, researching denials, or reviewing family complaints related to coding. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Associates Degree or two years college coursework in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience, or a Seattle Children’s Apprentice Hospital Coder for no less than 12 months.
Required Credentials
AHIMA: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P or AAPC: CPC, COC, CIC, CRC, CPMA, CPC.

Compensation Range
$28.44 - $42.66 per hour
Salary Information
This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

Seattle Children’s offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
