Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, hello, hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
As a Senior Privacy Product Manger, you will have well-developed skills in considering different frameworks, then applying them into product development of services which helps us meet and exceed the expectations of our users. This means that you will have to have a good analytical lens to complement collaboration with numerous internal partner teams and work streams, in order to achieve impact through their adoption of your solutions.
You will also have to be good at balancing multiple perspectives to pinpoint challenges and solutions: internal operations that require data to function, as well as bad actors who would manipulate legitimate uses of data for personal gain.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
• Be a critical contributor to the vision, strategy and roadmap for user privacy at Canva, working closely with privacy and product legal
• Be the Product Manager for the team of privacy engineers who build our services and tooling platform for data privacy across Canva, collaborating with privacy legal on compliance projects such as managing user preferences on messaging, ML and tracking, data minimisation, data mapping and data subject rights.
• Collaborate on compliance proposals, regulator responses, and decision documents with designs, creative thinking, industry analysis, platform strategy, engineering and other constraints
• Identify requirements and constraints to deliver on privacy projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams including privacy engineering, privacy and product legal, policy, operations, data risk and compliance, and marketing
• Support roadmap planning and prioritisation and alignment between different groups including privacy legal, privacy engineering and data risk and compliance, to ensure we are all rowing in the same direction and not duplicating effort
• Plan out adoption timelines with buy-in from internal teams, balancing their immediate needs to deliver impact with long-term sustainability and efficiency
• Ensure timely delivery by staying ahead of potential risks, unblocking teams in advance
• Explore all aspects of data privacy functionality from every stakeholder’s perspective to ensure testing and delivery against their needs
• Support handling privacy incidents & assessing Canva product safety risks
• Ensure Canva’s values and policies are consistently applied in the way we take action in preserving privacy
• Build a deep understanding of the current data protection mechanisms across Canva to understand existing issues and escalation points.
• Be an escalation point for incidents, and investigations including user and government concerns.
• Collaborate with other data management, governance and security teams to share strategies and best practices, and minimise redundancy
• Develop thinking and analysis of data privacy management through multiple lenses, understanding the impacts and tradeoffs of different approaches.
• Communicate team achievements for visibility and understanding of the risks and impact we have
• You will need to be flexible, pragmatic, strategic, tenacious, and take ownership of deliverables and outcomes.
You're probably a match if
As a solid Platform Product Manager, you will have well-developed skills in considering different stakeholders and frameworks, then applying them into product development of services which helps us meet and exceed the expectations of our users, particularly internal customers.
• You have proven experience in data privacy, dealing with consent, data sharing, data subject access requires and similar activities. Experience crafting and/or implementing data classification and governance systems is ideal to contribute both best practices and a culture of innovation.
• Alternatively, a background in data governance, compliance, ethics, identity, or other related risks like cybersecurity may transfer well if you have a passion for protecting the human right to privacy.
• Can speak the language of engineering, legal, data, design, operations and can coordinate cross-functionally with each to achieve big wins.
• An innovator willing to roll up their sleeves and get into the weeds.
• Ability to proactively unblock others by looking ahead to ensure problems and scope are crystal clear.
• Highly collaborative and effective with the ability to lead by example, and contribute through sensible, thoughtful communication and execution.
• Skilled in balancing long-term vision and strategy with timely delivery of outcomes that bring us closer to that vision.
• Data driven, but comfortable moving forward even if we don’t have all the information available to us, balancing first-principles reasoning with the data that we do have at hand.
