Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student worker to fill the role of Literacy Tutor for Reading Partners. Reading Partners is a national education nonprofit working with Title I elementary schools to provide kindergarten to fourth-grade students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. We are a data driven, evidence-based program. Regular assessments and rigorous studies prove our curriculum is highly effective at improving students’ reading skills. Reading Partners is looking for virtual tutors to serve our students in a one-on-one tutoring space. Tutoring with Reading Partners requires no teaching experience, as we provide initial training, all necessary materials and ongoing support. Job Responsibilities: • Tutor virtually using our Reading Partners Connects Platform • Work one-on-one with an elementary school student(s) • Prepare for lessons using the materials provided. • Follow Reading Partners' structured, digital curriculum. • Establish meaningful relationships and support students' Social Emotional Learning (SEL) development while tutoring and mentoring students in the area of literacy. • Able to commit 5-20 hours per week. • Support Reading Partners' social media content creation. Minimum Qualifications: • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program • Work study part of financial aid package • Students with work study may be prioritized • Complete a free mandatory background check with the Department of Education • Be responsive and center the students’ learning needs • Look for opportunities to listen to and learn from students. • Avoid making assumptions or letting assumptions influence your interactions with students. • Use affirming language that validates the student’s feelings and/or experiences in and outside of the reading center. • Remain open and engaged when interacting with diverse texts and Reading Partners’ social emotional learning curriculum. • Exercise patience while working with young learners. • Commit to your student(s) and tutoring schedule. • Be reliable and punctual.
